Understanding Why Your Supplements May Not Be Effective

Before we delve into that did you realize that it is projected that 150 million Americans take supplements, typically in the form of some kind of multivitamin? An additional problem is that the majority of vitamin supplements are made from chemicals, and are not made in the USA, but places like China.

So now let’s answer the question of why your supplements don’t work.

Low Quality Supplements

Nutritionist Judith DeCava sheds light on what may be the dark side of single vitamin isolates found in most supplements today. “Separating the group of compounds (in a vitamin complex) converts it from a physiological active micronutrient into a disabled, debilitated chemical of little or no value to living cells.”

It could be that you are taking a low quality or poorly formulated product. There are lots of these around. Unfortunately, many companies concentrate on the price, and not on the quality. They use cheap nutrients that are poorly absorbed. You, as the customer lose. Unless you know what to search for on a label, you could simply be paying for a product that’s not going to help much or at all.

As an example take Vitamin C. It’s been promoted because of its benefits to immunity, collagen production and more. However, if you pay attention to the label it likely says, Vitamin C (ascorbic acid). As an isolate, ascorbic acid is just one of eight parts, the other seven are missing.

More food for thought, where does the ascorbic acid come from? Are you sitting down? It’s made from fermented corn that is chemically altered by  hydrogenated sugar and the use of acetone, which is a solvent which is used in nail polish removers.

If your current supplement is filled with single isolates of vitamins, and if the source of many of those vitamins are fractionalized or sourced from animal and chemical derivatives, that multivitamin delivers little of the benefit of real food.

Not Following Directions

Another reason is you are not following the directions on the bottle. If it tells you to take 3 capsules a day, you cannot take 1 and expect to get the results. You have to take the recommended dosage to get the results, again that is why it is important that you read the label before purchasing a product.

Poor Digestion

If you are constantly struggling with indigestion, heartburn, and other irritable bowel problems, you cannot expect to digest and absorb the nutrients to help your allergies, joints, hormones or immune system? First deal with those elimination and digestive issues, otherwise, you could be throwing away lots of money on supplements that aren’t absorbed.
